21/07/2020 Article: ICO publishes Annual Report 2019/2020
On 20 July 2020, the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) published its annual report, containing details of its activities and financial statements between April 2019 and March 2020.
Activities include the ICO’s new Age Appropriate Design Code, its regulatory sandbox service, guidance on data protection and COVID-19, guidance on data protection and Brexit, and its enforcement action.
16/07/2020 Newsflash: Data transfers to the US – you can no longer rely on the EU–US Privacy Shield!
On 16 July 2020, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) ruled that the EU Commission’s EU-US Privacy Shield Decision (2016/1250) is invalid. This means that UK and EU organisations who transfer personal data to the US can no longer rely on the fact that the recipient is self-certified for the EU-US Privacy Shield framework to demonstrate that they have met GDPR international data transfer rules.
